The rabbit is not a rodent, but a lagomorph. They are brownish-grey in colour, and about 40 cm long and up to 2 kg in weight when fully grown. They have characteristically long ears, and long rear legs, and a short white tail.
The hare is broadly similar in appearance, but is larger (up to 60 cm), has longer rear legs, has black-tipped ears and no white tail.
