Description

The adult Brown Rat is a uniform brown-grey in colour, typically weighing 300 to 500 g, with its head and body measuring 200 to 270 mm. It has a heavily-built body, a blunt muzzle, smallish eyes and ears, and its tail is shorter than its head and body. 

The Black Rat, Ship Rat or Roof Rat (Rattus rattus) is rare in the UK, and appears to be confined to a few locations on the Thames.
