Description

The adult moth is 7 to 9 mm long, and has mottled dark brown and gold coloured wings. The head and thorax (‘shoulder’) have conspicuous white scales. 

The Brown House Moth (Hofmannophila pseudospretella) has broadly similar biology and behaviour, but is slightly larger and has mottled brown wings.
